WEIGHED DOWN BY SADNESS THIS HOLIDAY SEASON?

Though the holidays are thought of as a time of sharing, family, and celebration, for many they are emotionally exhausting.

If you feel knocked down by sadness during this holiday season, you’re not alone.

Between polarized politics and the continuing global coronavirus pandemic, according to new research from Boston University School of Public Health, the pre-pandemic depression rate of 8.5 percent has jumped to a staggering 32.8 percent in 2021, affecting 1 in every 3 American adults.

My guess is that you have received some of the following inane pieces of advice from those who mean well:

  • You need to just think positively.
  • I know exactly how you feel.
  • Everyone has problems.
  • Look how lucky you are.

Someone shared with me the following video that beautifully explains what depression feels like and what to do about it.

Depression during the holiday season is a very real thing.  When life feels like a constant gray cloud, it’s easy to feel hopeless.

But….there is hope for you.

Wishing you and yours a healthy and peaceful holiday season.
